My last two post regarding Unidentified Network and Limited or No Connectivity was really a hit and gain lots of traffic to my site. Certain established forums linked to my post and i must say, i really like sharing my technical knowledge.
The first two post i posted earlier were merely for Wired Connection. In this post, i will elaborate more on problems with Wireless Network.
I bet most of you will face Unidentified Network/Limited or No Connectivity with your wireless connection. Don’t panic, cause the root of the problem is quite simple. Usually if you ever get an error when u connect to a wireless network saying Unidentified Network/Limited or No Connectivity, it means that u got a security enable wireless network and u entered the wrong security key (This only apply for WEP).
So, like i said, don’t panic. If you unsure of your WEP key, you can always retrieve it from your modem page. Please take note that your ISP don’t have your WEP key as the key itself was generated or saved inside your modem. So what u need to do is, try to access your modem page, if you unsure on how to open the modem page, try to open your Command Prompt and key in ipconfig, then enter. Before you do this, please make a wired connection first so you can access your modem page.
Once you enter, you will get this:
- Ip Address: xxx.xxx.x.x
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Default Gateway: xxx.xxx.x.x
You can access your router/modem page by key in your default gateway address on your web browser.
Take note that most router/modem got their own username and password, for this, you need to know what is the default username and password, and if you had changed before this, please remember the username and password. Also bare in mind, its not the same as your ISP username and password.
Once you login to your router/modem page, try to search for wireless security, usually u can find the option security under wireless. Certain router/modem will show u the character of your WEP key but certain doesn’t. In this case, you might need to retype a new WEP key. Please refer here regarding how to key in the WEP key. Once you done, do not forget to save the settings and close the browser. Now its time to test the wireless network.
Usually when you are connected to a wireless network, Windows will save your wireless network inside your PC. Meaning that you might need to update the current Preffered Network WEP key. I will update more bout this later since my laptop battery can only last for few more minutes.

I have an eeepc notebook model. As i opened up my laptop, i was connected for about 2hours.While browsing the net, i have seen in my task bar a balloon saying i am in conflict with an ip thats why there is “windows system error:in conflict with another ip”.This is the message that came out in my screen. I reset my computer when it says “limited or no connectivity” coz i did not touched any configuration to my laptop. When i turned it off, it always says “limited or no connectivity”. When i looked at somebody’s laptop, they are all connected by mine is not. Why is that so.
my hp pavillion dv6000 is doing this limited or no connectivity, its also telling me its an unidentified network. Everythings worked fine for the past year, then all of a sudden 2 days ago this started. i can only connect when im plugged in. i have 2 xbox 360’s wired that work fine, but every wireless laptop in my house gets limited or no connectivity. No setings were changed or anything, this just happend out of the blue.
Also, when checking status it says my IPv4 connectivity is limited as well as my IPv6 connectivity.
I tried resetting the modem, and iv tried resetting the router.. searching the net gave me no straight answer. PLEASE HELP. its driving me mad
Hi Graham,
You did indicate that you had reset the modem and the router. Doing this will lose your setting inside your router including the Security settings for your wireless network.
Did you re-enter the same wireless configuration on your router? If not, try to take down the details for your wireless network. Details needed are:
SSID/Network Name
Security Setting: WEP/WPA/None
WEP Key is its under WEP encyption
If you did re-enter the same network name and WEP key, maybe you can try to check on your laptop settings. You can try to remove the old wireless network name and reconfigure the new one.
If you need help on how to do it, please let me know the Operating System that you are currently running.
I recently set up a new network and my daughter came over with her PC. I had no problems with my mac (or my son’s mac), but the PC is giving me fits. This makes no sense at all.
I tried most of the suggestions and coul not make it work. Why?
