Its been a while since i update this blog with my troubleshooting steps. As i can see, my posting for Unidentified Network for Vista is quite a hit, so i want to continue to post on a rare troubleshooting steps, steps which is hard to find in internet.
A lot of my colleague, when receive a call from a mac user, they will freak out. Relax guys, Mac is not that hard and basically Mac is quite simple(for me). All the settings are the same only the interface might differ and plus, u cannot right click on Mac.
Well the setting im going to provide below is mainly for Ethernet modem. When using Ethernet modem, they are 2 ways for you to connect. First using a dialer, and second using the modem interface.
Connect using modem/router interface
Okay, we all know if you want to connect via interface you can open the web browser and just type in the default gateway and you can get the page. What if you not sure about the default gateway, or you not sure whether you already select the right network port. These are the way to check on router/modem default gateway on Mac:-

Click on the Apple sign and select Location –> Network Preferences
For the Location you can select Automatic, but for the screenshot there, it had been rename to Broadband ISP (Do not panic as this is only the connection name)
The important part is the Show, you can choose either to show Internal Modem(Normally your 56k modem), Airport(Also known as Wireless Network Card) or Built In Ethernet(Your Network Adapter or LAN Adapter). In this case, make sure you select Built In Ethernet.
Under the Configure IPV4, make sure you select Using DHCP
Once you select that, you should be able to see your default gateway for modem/router on the Router.
If let say under some circumstances you are not able to view the router address there, Do not panic as there is one more configuration you need to check.
Click under PPPoE Tab and make sure Connect using PPPoE is NOT tick.
Once you set the settings, you should be able to see the router/modem default gateway under the TCP/IP tab. Then you can directly open you browser and type in the address and set your internet connection from modem/router interface.
If let say you still can’t view the router address and you happen to know the default gateway, you can try this option:-
1. Under TCP/IP tab on the Configure IPV4 option, select Manually.
2. Configure the IP Address (Depends on the router address, if router address is 192.168.1.1, you can configure the IP address as 192.168.1.2)
3. Configure the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
4. Configure the router address to 192.168.1.1 (If the router address is 192.168.1.1)
5. Configure the DNS server(Refer with your respective ISP)
6. Click Apply Now
7. Open your web browser and type the router address
8. If it works, please let me know as this is only my logic theory, never tested it as normally i can view the router address.
Connect via PPPoE Dialer on Mac
If let say you want to connect via PPPoE dialer from your Mac(Modem on bridge mode):-
Go to Apple sign –>Location–>Network Preferences (screenshot same as above)
Make sure you select Built In Ethernet and click on PPPoE tab
Tick on Connect using PPPoE and enter the Account Name(Username) and Password.
You can tick on Show PPPoE status in menu bar and click Apply Now.

Click on Go and select Applications
Click on Internet Connect, Make sure you select Built In Ethernet for your configuration option and it will prompt you the Account Name and Password, you can click on Connect to dial in.
Okies, i think thats all for now, will update more troubleshooting steps in the future.
